The Hon. Bill Shorten at the Revesby Gurudwara with the Hon. Jason Clare MP and candidate for Banks Chris Gambian (also of Indian heritage) to pay his respects to Guru Granth Sahib. Bill met with the Executive Committee and had a round table discussion where questions of Sikh identity were raised and what they are doing to educate the wider community. Bill said that the Liberal Govt will always seek to create division and that under a Labor Govt Bill promises to pro actively work with minority communities such as the Sikh community and highlight their rich contributions across various platforms.
He also gave a great speech in the Gurudwara highlighting the achievements of Sikhs in Australia and said he can’t wait for the day when we get our first Turban wearing politician. Rita Kumari received appreciations for operating Punjabi School with in the Revesby Gurudwara and Tarlochan Singh was also honoured to do Seva in Free Kitchen for many years. Hon Shorten said when he left, this was one of the most spiritually enlightening trips he has ever had and looks forward to visiting the Gurudwara as the next Prime Minister of Australia!
