Join Welcome Home For Australian Paralympic Heroes

Australia’s Paralympic team touched down at Sydney airport this morning fresh from their top five medal finish at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

NSW Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres invited fans to a special welcome home celebration on Tuesday 4 October to congratulate the team on their achievements.

“Athletes in the Australian Paralympic team have broken four world records and achieved an overall 81 medals, deserving nothing short of a heroes’ welcome back to Australia,” Mr Ayres said.
“City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore and I will host a special celebration to welcome home 50 of our Paralympic champions on Tuesday 4 October from 12.30pm at Martin Place.

“I encourage members of the public to come down in your green and gold and meet the superstars who have made this huge contribution to Australian sport.

“It’s a great chance for fellow Aussies to celebrate the rising stars of the future who have kept us enthralled with their performances these last several weeks.”

Lord Mayor Clover Moore congratulated the team on one of their most successful Games to date.

“Our athletes have dedicated their every waking hour to training and preparing for the pressures of competition at the highest level – it’s incredibly inspiring,” the Lord Mayor said.

“As an official Paralympics team sponsor, we’ve been behind our Paralympic athletes from the beginning. We’re delighted to welcome them home after their success in Rio.

“We also salute and congratulate the amazing group of team officials who accompanied the athletes throughout the competition.”
