After a bruising one-day series against Bangladesh, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Wednesday expressed happiness with how his team performed in the third and final ODI on Wednesday.

The series, which saw the usually ‘cool’ Dhoni appear ruffled, ended with India securing a 77-run win in the third ODI.

Once the series was lost, Dhoni had said in an apparently sarcastic tone that if his removal from captaincy could help Indian cricket move in right direction then he was ready to quit.

After the face-saving win, which prevented a sweep by Bangladesh — hyped as ‘Banglawash’ on the social media — Dhoni said he was pleased with the overall efforts put in by his team in the final ODI, but pointed out that there were a lot of areas which needed improvement.

Chasing India’s total of 317/6, Bangladesh managed to get to only 240 runs in 47 overs.

For Bangladesh, Sabbir Rahman top scored with a knock of 43, while Suresh Raina picked up 3/45 off his eight overs.

The hosts, however, clinched the three-match series 2-1 having won both the earlier matches. This was Bangladesh’s first ODI series win over India.

“It is pleasing to get a win but there are a lot of areas we need to improve. We need to decide whether we want really quick bowlers or bowlers who don’t bowl quickly but bowl in the right lines and lengths,” Dhoni said at the post match presentation ceremony here.

The skipper praised the hosts saying, “Bangladesh are a very good side, they have become more consistent lately. Overall if you see the unit, the Bangladeshi team is a very good one.”

The 33-year-old said over 300 runs on the board made life easier for the bowlers to defend the total.

“What was important for us was to put runs on the board and that’s what we did in this game. If you give your bowlers extra 15-20 runs, it becomes easier for them. On slow wickets, you sometimes feel that you are behind the par score, but if you have wickets in hand, you can score more runs in the last overs,” he said.

“We knew that if we had good partnerships, we could get a good score. That’s why we kept Suresh Raina for later, so that he could come out and play naturally.”
