The Sydney Opera House will be glowing green and gold this Friday and Saturday night to support the Wallabies ahead of the weekend’s World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Arts Troy Grant said it is only fitting Australia’s most iconic building sports the green and gold ahead of what will become an iconic moment in Australia’s history.
“Our Wallabies will know when they see the Opera House’s sails light up that everyone back home will be cheering hard and loud,” Mr Grant said.
“From Broken Hill, to the Riverina and up north to the Tweed, every fan across NSW and Australia is right behind our boys – let’s show the Kiwis what we’re made of.”
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres is encouraging all Australians to set their alarms for Sunday morning’s match.
“From the Bledisloe Cup, to the Sydney Sevens, NSW is a global home of rugby. To light up the Sydney Opera House sends this message loud and clear to the rest of the world,” Mr Ayres said.
“The last time the Wallabies lifted the William Webb Ellis trophy in 1999, Australia had also taken out the Cricket and Netball World Cups. Now in 2015 we’ve already got two of the three, knocking over New Zealand both times – let’s make it a trifecta on Sunday!”
The Rugby World Cup Final between the Wallabies and New Zealand will be played at Twickenham Stadium in London at 3am AEDT Sunday.
