Many Indian individuals and organisations across Australia in the last 20 or so years tried to unify the Indian diaspora in Australia, under one single umbrella. Only one who is succeeding with pride and no hidden agenda, Sonia Sadiq Gandhi, with her business, Gandhi Creations, and the premier showcase awards, the Indian Australian Business & Community Awards.

For many years, more and more Indian association and organisations pop up in Australia, to cater for many different Indian individuals and groups, some with agendas, and some due clashes with others. Many times, to be bring one single umbrella together, for the Indian diaspora, but a number of attempts have failed.

A meeting held by one of the former Indian Consul Generals in Sydney, there was a suggestion and proposal, to follow the Jewish Board of Deputies model. This suggestion and proposal got shot down quickly, saying that “Indian diaspora in Australia could not achieve this, as the Jewish Board of Deputies model is unified under one religion and one language”. Sonia Sadiq Gandhi, with her business, Gandhi Creations, and the premier showcase awards, the Indian Australian Business & Community Awards (IABCA) is trying to bring that umbrella together for the Indian diaspora in Australia.

The IABCA platform celebrates the Australia India relationship story with pride, honour and success, from many industries and walks of life. These awards also acknowledge those who have achieved and contributed greatly, of Indians in Australia and Australians in India, in a way that encourages further growth in great relations between the two. The IABCA initiative directly contributes to the Australia India objectives of promoting a broader and deeper relationship between the two countries, as a proud showcase. Recently held their 2019 awards launch, with Federal parliament member, Julian Leeser MP.  The IABCA initiative is the only group in the Indian diaspora, has had a delegation to Canberra, meeting with Julian Leeser MP, to discuss Australia India relations in business, trade and investment.
