THE national Births, Deaths and Marriages registry has just released data on the most popular baby names in Australia for 2015.

The influence of the royals was clear, according to data released by research firm McCrindle.

Charlotte was the most popular girl’s name from 2011-2013, and after a hiatus in 2014, it was boosted back to the top by the birth of the Princess Charlotte of Cambridge in May last year.

Classic names that were popular a century ago have also regained popularity.

In 1910s, William ranked second in NSW and that name is back in second place for 2015.

Jack climbed up to fifth place in the 1920s and had a resurgence in the past decade, making it into the top 10. Oliver, Ethan and Thomas have similarly returned to popularity.

Grace was a popular girls’ name in the early 1900s, but dropped off the radar until the 1980s, following a similar trend to the names Charlotte and Ava.
