On Wednesday afternoon, the immigration authorities at London’s Heathrow Airport detained Akshay Kumar for over an hour-and-a-half after the Bollywood actor was found to have been travelling without a valid visa.

The discrepancy arose when Akshay, who arrived in London from Mumbai along with his personal trainer, for a 15-day shoot of his upcoming period drama, Rustom, was held from 7 am to 8.45 am (British Summer Time) during which he was made to sit in a general holding area for detained passengers.

Airport officials informed Mirror that Akshay, that the rules allow a Canadian national to visit the UK as a tourist without a visa. However, when asked about the purpose of this visit, the actor disclosed that it was for a film shoot, which made a visa stamp necessary. And was hence detained.

Sources close to the actor revealed that Akshay attracted some amount of attention in the holding area, with his fans clicking photographs of him.

At one point, he requested that he be allowed to sit in a private area. His request was declined by the authorities who told him that there was no such designated area.

Akshay however denied the incident saying he had a valid visa and was out of the aiport quickly.
