While school students and staff have been on holidays, the NSW Government has been working hard to improve facilities at almost 500 public schools across the state.
“Over the summer break work continues on projects both big and small worth $220 million,” Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli said today.
“During the summer holidays students and staff can take a much-needed break and enjoy quality time with their families. The Government uses this time to get stuck into construction upgrades and maintenance projects at schools.”
Mr Piccoli and Member for Drummoyne John Sidoti visited Lucas Gardens School to inspect work on the $16 million school rebuild.
“This project includes 12 classrooms, a library, special purpose rooms, a hydrotherapy pool and a games and recreation area,” Mr Sidoti said.
“The school provides educational programs for students with high support needs, and will deliver an invaluable service to students.
“The new school is expected to be ready for students at the start of Term 1 2017.”
Mr Piccoli said there are eight major works projects in Sydney continuing during these holidays including two new schools, Anzac Park Public School in Cammeray and Spring Farm Public School in south western Sydney.
“There are also five major works projects currently underway in regional NSW including at Bowral Public School, Narrabri Public School and Walgett Community College,” Mr Piccoli said.
Schools in NSW will benefit from minor works and maintenance projects, such as upgrading classrooms, painting, toilet upgrades, roof repairs, and grounds improvement.
“These improvement projects are part of the $450 million committed by the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government to enhance public school infrastructure,” Mr Piccoli said.
Since 2011 the NSW Government has committed almost $4 billion to school infrastructure and maintenance, announced 50 major upgrade projects and funded 23 new or relocated public schools.
