A host of actors are all set to prove that apart from acting abilities, they have a knack for business, too. While Kareena Kapoor Khan will be producing a documentary soon, Sonam Kapoor and Sunny Leone are going to lend their names to full fledged feature films.

Kareena’s production venture is a documentary on women’s empowerment. According to reports, the actor has already read the first draft of the script, and has given her suggestions. There is buzz that she might also play a part in the film. “She could be the narrator,” a Mumbai tabloid quoted a source as saying earlier.

While her sister Rhea Kapoor and father Anil Kapoor have been producing films, Sonam Kapoor will turn producer for her upcoming film, Battle For Bittora. “I will be involved in every aspect, right from finances and research to casting,” Sonam was quoted as saying earlier.

Sunny Leone, too, will be producing a film soon, wherein she’ll be playing a superhero. Priyanka Chopra’s maiden production Madamji may have been stalled for some time now, but the actor is keen on producing more films. “I hope I will be able to finish Madamji at some point. In the meantime, I’m working on a bunch of scripts which I will produce,” Priyanka told us earlier.

Trade analyst Omar Qureshi says that actors take to production to make the film more ‘saleable’. “It’s not tough for actors to produce, as most of the time, they just lend their name to the film. An external studio takes care of the funds. Having their name as the producer increases the saleability of the film. Also, actors want to keep the profit to themselves, which they can do only if they produce the film,” he says.

Analyst Atul Mohan agrees. “Either these actors sell the film or they enter a joint venture with a studio. The budget of the film includes the cost of production and the actor’s fee. There is also profit sharing once the film is released,” he says.
