West Australian homicide detectives are investigating the death of woman in the northern suburbs of Perth.

At 1.40am on Sunday, WA police were called to a residence in Mirrabooka Avenue in the Perth suburb of Balga, following reports of a disturbance at the property.

On arrival, police became aware a 30-year-old woman had sustained a serious injury and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where she later died.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the cause of injury which led to the death.

A 30-year-old woman related to the victim has been taken into police custody and is assisting in the investigation.
