Tigerair offering $9 flights on domestic routes – but only if you have carry-on luggage and book before Saturday. Melbourne to Adelaide, Brisbane to Cairns, Sydney to Melbourne for $9. Cheaper tickets went on sale on Wednesday with offer on until Saturday. Catch is you have to pay extra for baggage starting at $13.50 per suitcase
Spokeswoman said it was a $9 deal if passengers had carry-on bags only.

Budget airline Tigerair is offering $9 flights in Australia. The catch is passengers have to book the tickets by Saturday morning and pay extra for baggage and in-flight food. Flights both ways between Melbourne and Adelaide, Brisbane and Cairns and Sydney and Melbourne went on sale on Wednesday. To get the $9 deal, you have to snap them up by Saturday at noon AEDT, or sooner, and fly in February or March.

The cost does not include baggage, which starts at $13.50 for suitcases weighing 15kg or less on flights that land within one hour and 45 minutes of takeoff. That’s for passengers who have booked their baggage online. Tigerair spokeswoman Vanessa Regan said passengers would only pay $9 for their flight if they had carry-on luggage of up to 7kg and ate beforehand.

‘Essentially, if you’ve got carry-on luggage only you can fly for $9,’ she told Daily Mail Australia. ‘The majority of our flights are two hours so a lot of people are taking carry-on only for short flights. ‘For a lot of our flights being one to two hours a lot of people, if they want to save money, obviously eat before or eat afterwards.’ The discount flights, marketed for the price of three takeaway cappuccinos, are taking off from February 1 to March 22.

The $9 deal has been offered to celebrate the ninth anniversary of Tigerair beginning its first domestic service in Australia, in November 2007. Ms Regan said more $9 fares were going on sale on Thursday and Friday, at noon AEDT. ‘If they sell out today, there’s more going on sale tomorrow,’ she said.
