Kerala Governor P Sathasivam, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi were among the high-profile guests who visited the hospital Monday.

In a medical bulletin issued on Monday, Apollo Hospital in Chennai said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s condition is being constantly monitored by intensivists (specialists treating critically-ill patients) and other consultants in an expert panel formed to oversee her treatment.

Four days after the hospital said Jayalalithaa is being treated for a lung ailment, the bulletin on Monday said: “Necessary respiratory support, antibiotics, nutrition, supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy are being given.”

The bulletin added that Dr G Khilnani, department of pulmonary medicine, AlIMS, examined Jayalalithaa on Sunday and Monday. A senior official from the hospital said: “We are issuing frequent bulletins as that is the only way to prevent rumours. To put an end to wild rumours, we have already revealed that she is on respiratory support and that she has a lung ailment. We have further said that she is also being administered passive physiotherapy. She is responding to medicines.”

Kerala Governor P Sathasivam, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi were among the high-profile guests who visited the hospital Monday.

Meanwhile, Congress has disagreed with DMK’s demand for appointing an interim CM. The two parties had forged an alliance ahead of the last Assembly polls. Chief of Tamil Nadu’s Congress unit S Thirunavukkarasar said there is no need to appoint a new CM when the administration is functioning properly.
