Australia has voted and it’s official, the best (or the hottest) song of the decade is The Less I Know The Better by Tame Impala.

The Kevin Parker-fronted track, which first appeared on Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown in 2015 at number 4 – took out top spot in the decade’s best countdown, beating out Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye (ft. Kimbra) at 2 and Do I Wanna Know by Arctic Monkeys at 3 to reign supreme.

Violent Soho’s Covered In Chrome followed at 4, while Rufus’ rounded out the top 5 with Innerbloom – all 9 minutes and 38 seconds of it.

A homage to the decade of music that was, Triple J announced it would be holding a Hottest 100 of the Decade to mark the start of 2020 after 2019’s edition of the beloved countdown was taken out by Billie Eilish with Bad Guy – which came in at #71 in the decade’s best.

The countdown featured nine songs that previously hadn’t made an appearance in a Hottest 100, with 49 of those songs coming from Australian musos.

Earlier this week, Triple J announced the year with the most songs making it to the top 100 was 2012, with a whopping 1,869,659 votes counted for this year’s countdown.

Just missing out on the top five, Magnolia by Gang of Youths came in at number 6, followed by Pumped Up Kicks by Foster The People and Never Be Like You by Flume, at 7 and 8 respectively.

Big Jet Plane by Angus and Julia Stone snuck in at number 9, with Matt Corby’s Brother rounding out the top 10.
