Sonam Kapoor might have taken a sly dig at Deepika Padukone’s Hollywood career. Check out her statement.
Today marks the ninth year of Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor in the industry. If you guys remember, exactly nine years ago, this trio made their debut. While Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor made their debut opposite each other in Saawariya, Deepika had a bangin’ start opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om.
Of course, their careers took various different paths as they experimented with their choice of films and kind of roles undertaken. Currently, all three have different positions in the industry. All their careers have gone through ups and downs in these nine years and they’ve all managed to overcome it and move ahead.
In fact, DP has moved onto the West! She’ll be making her Hollywood debut opposite Vin Diesel in xXx: Return of Xander Cage.
Miss Padukone followed Priyanka Chopra’s lead and is all set to make it huge in Hollywood. However, Sonam is also not far behind in trying her hand in the West. She signed up with a Los Angeles agency and is hoping for film offers from Hollywood to pour in. When a leading daily questioned her about her venturing out in the West, Kapoor got a little catty as she answered, “If there is something that excites me, and if there is a good opportunity, then why not? I am in Los Angeles, to gauge at the possibilities. I am not going to hide it (trying to bag a film in the West) from anybody, and then suddenly announce that I have signed a (Hollywood) film. I am trying my best to sign good films. I am doing the same in Mumbai as well. But I have to see what I enjoy doing, and who I can work with or what I can work on.”
We have italicised the part which clearly seems like a dig at her contemporary, Deepika. If you don’t remember, Padukone kept her Hollywood plans under wraps and chose to evade any sort of discussion on the same. Just a picture of her hugging Vin Diesel that too from behind surfaced which left everyone anticipate about her Hollywood plans.
In fact, even when she was questioned (and this happened during Bajirao Mastani), she chose to evade them and not divulge about the same, until one day she announced it. Basically, DP was hiding news of her signing xXx for reasons best known to her.
This isn’t the first time Sonam Kapoor has taken sly digs at her contemporaries. She is quite open and opinionated when it comes to answering questions. A lot of times, her open attitude tends to put her in trouble. We’ll soon be seeing her in Veere Di Wedding which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania.
