Singer and body positivity activist Lizzo has clapped back at former Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels’ comments about her weight.

Michaels appeared on Buzzfeed’s AM to DM show where she said, “Why are we celebrating her body? Why does it matter? Why aren’t we celebrating her music?

“Cause it isn’t going to be awesome if she gets diabetes.

“I’m just being honest. I love her music, my kid loves her music, but there’s never a moment when I’m like, ‘I’m so glad she’s overweight.’

“Why do I even care? Why is it my job to care about her weight?”

Lizzo responded to Michaels’ remarks on Instagram.

“At the 25-second mark I want you to take 5 deep breaths … in through the nose … out through the mouth .. today’s mantra is: This is my life. I have done nothing wrong. I forgive myself for thinking I was wrong in the first place. I deserve to be happy.”

Michaels tried to clarify her comments later, tweeting “As I’ve stated repeatedly, we are all beautiful, worthy, and equally deserving.”

“I also feels strongly that we love ourselves enough to acknowledge there are serious health consequences that come with obesity – heart disease, diabetes, cancer to name only a few.

“I would never wish these for ANYONE and I would hope we prioritize our health because we LOVE ourselves and our bodes.”

Lizzo is on tour in Australia where she recently helped out by volunteering at Foodbank Victoria in Melbourne between shows to help raise money for bushfire relief.

Speaking to Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa in Sydney, Lizzo said, “I wish I could help everyday, I wish I could cancel my shows and pack some milk and some cereal for families that have been displaced.

“Then if I could just help the koalas and help people rebuild then I would but I’ve got shows to do and I realise that helps as well.”
