Scott Morrison takes barre class after mispronunciation gaffe

Scott Morrison was left red-faced earlier in the year when he was exposed as having no idea what barre was. Now, the PM has taken a class.

Scott Morrison has flexed his muscles and taken a barre class, more than six months after he was exposed nationally as having no idea what the ballet-inspired fitness craze was.

The prime minister visited Melbourne on Monday for the first time since February.

He visited businesses across the city, including movement studio Heal’r, where he was asked if he wanted to try his hand at barre.

Mr Morrison removed his jacket and shoes before approaching the ballet barre, where he tried several poses.

“Everything’s cracking,” he joked after trying a plié.

He also learnt about other forms of exercise, including reformer pilates.

Mr Morrison was left red-faced earlier this year when he pronounced it as “bar-ray” while announcing COVID-19 restrictions.

“I’m not sure quite what that is to be honest, but B-A-R-R-E, for those looking for the specific definition,” the PM said at the time.

For the uninitiated, the word is pronounced “bar”.
