Two teenagers have been saved from the Murray River after being swept away in an inflatable boat near the NSW/Victorian border.

Police found the boy and girl, both aged 14, clinging to a branch near Hodge Island, close to Albury, about 6.40pm on Saturday.

Officers were told the children were floating down the river with the inflatable boat – the girl inside and the boy hanging onto the back – when it filled with water and they were swept downstream.

A male officer swam out to them and waited until an Albury Volunteer Rescue boat arrived to collect the group.

The teenagers were taken to Albury Base Hospital, where they were treated for mild hypothermia, and have since been released.
