The Draft Parramatta CBD Parking Strategy, now on public exhibition, explores opportunities to better accommodate the different parking needs of residents, visitors and workers.

“With record investment and a huge population boom, the Parramatta CBD is transforming at an unprecedented rate − and so are its transport needs,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

“Over the coming years, the Parramatta Light Rail and Sydney Metro West will change how people move around the CBD, while the Powerhouse Museum and $2.7 billion Parramatta Square precinct will attract millions of visitors and workers to the centre of global Sydney.

“This is our opportunity to make the CBD even more liveable, connected and sustainable. Having a variety of short and long term parking options that complement other transport methods will make it easier and more convenient for people to shop, visit, work, and do business in our City. I encourage the community to review our plan and help inform the future of parking in the CBD.”

The draft strategy recommends proposals that can be delivered over the coming months and years.

Short to medium term options include: increasing the duration of on-street metered parking on the CBD fringe; working with local businesses and private parking providers to access unused spaces; revamping Council’s existing car parks using Smart City technology, such as providing electric vehicle charging stations and installing vehicle detection sensors; and improving parking signage across the CBD.

The draft strategy is on public exhibition until 5pm, Wednesday 22 September. To have your say, visit: participate.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/cbd-parking
