A motorcyclist aged in his 50s has died after losing control of his vehicle northeast of Melbourne.

A motorcyclist has died after crashing his vehicle northeast of Melbourne.

Investigators believe the rider lost control while travelling along Cherry Tree Road in Panton Hill about 5.30pm on Friday.

The man in his 50s died at the scene.

Police investigations are continuing.
