There were 18,823 tests reported in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 22,427in the previous 24 hours.

Of the 13 new cases reported to 8pm last night:

·       three are travellers in hotel quarantine

·       one was acquired in Victoria

·       eight were locally acquired linked to known cases including:

  • one case attended the Apollo Restaurant Potts Point
  • one case attended the Mounties Mount Pritchard
  • one case attended Advance Early Learning Childcare Centre Merrylands
  • five who were close contacts of known cases

·       one has no known links to known cases

Following confirmation of a Sydney case who visited Newcastle on 29 and 30 July while infectious, NSW Health is urging anyone who visited the following venues to strictly isolate at home for 14 days from the date below and get tested regardless of symptoms, but remain in isolation for the full 14 days even if the test is negative. If COVID-19 symptoms develop, get retested.

  • Hotel Jesmond on 29 July between 7.30pm and 9.30pm
  • Wallsend Diggers on 30 July between 7.30pm and 9.30pm

A person who was infectious with COVID-19 attended Fitness First at Rockdale on 27 July 2020 from 11.25am to 12.30pm, and a person who was infectious attended a yoga studio in Bondi on 23 July 2020 from 12.15 to 1.15pm. Both cases are associated with the Apollo Restaurant cluster at Potts Point and were previously counted in the public health alert. Close and casual contacts have been individually identified.

There are now:

  • 101 cases associated with Thai Rock Wetherill Park cluster
  • 58 cases associated with the Crossroads Hotel cluster
  • 35 cases associated with the funeral events in Bankstown and surrounding suburbs, including eleven associated with Mounties in Mount Pritchard.
  • 26 cases associated with the Potts Point cluster, including 20 cases linked to the Apollo Restaurant cluster and 6 cases linked with the Thai Rock Restaurant Potts Point cluster (two cases attended both).

While most cases in the past week have been associated with local clusters and close contact with known cases, seven have not been linked to known cases. These unlinked cases have been in people from South Western Sydney, Western Sydney, South Eastern Sydney and Sydney LHDs.

To help stop the spread of COVID-19:

  • If you are unwell, stay in, get tested and isolate.
  • Wash your hands regularly. Take hand sanitiser with you when you go out.
  • Keep your distance. Leave 1.5 metres between yourself and others.
  • Wear a mask in situations where you cannot physically distance.

A full list of COVID-19 testing clinics is available at the following link, or people can visit their GP: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Pages/clinics.aspx

Isolation is mandatory for anyone identified as a close contact of a case. Anyone directed to undertake a 14-day self-isolation period must stay in isolation for the full time, even if they test negative. Early testing may not detect infection, and release from self-isolation based on a negative test could allow an infectious person to infect others in the community. Most people who are infected and develop symptoms will do so within 14 days of infection.
