Minister for Local Government Paul Toole today encouraged all new and returning councillors to attend one of the workshops being held across NSW following the September elections.
Mr Toole visited Nowra this week to attend the first of the 21 Hit the Ground Running councillor workshops.
“Being a councillor is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to the community, but this privilege comes with responsibilities,’’ Mr Toole said.
“These workshops provide essential information for councillors to support them in serving their community and fulfilling those responsibilities.
“The workshops will provide guidance on standards of conduct, long-term planning, management of council resources and the workings of the Local Government Act,” Mr Toole said.
Those attending will hear from an experienced councillor, who will talk about what it takes to be successful in the role. Another session will explain council meeting practice in detail.
Mr Toole said the workshops will be run by the Office of Local Government in collaboration with Local Government NSW.
