Minister John Ajaka visited Sikh Temple, Glenwood

Minister John Ajaka, Minister for Multiculturalism, aging and volunteers visited Sikh Temple, Glenwood. Austarlian Sikh Association, General secretary Jagdish Singh Kalsi, welcomed the minister and gave some background on the Sikh History in Australia. He told minister about the various activities being undertaken by Australian Sikh Association in Australia and achievements of the Sikh Community in Australia. S Amar Singh president Turbans4Australia explained in detail about Sikh culture and activities undertaken by the association. Captain Sarjinder singh Sandhu, President presented memorandum about Sikh Community issues like;

1. Sikh Identify Awareness – Sikh identity in Australia be promoted by Govt so that Sikhs are not misidentified with other people

2.Sikhs Participation in Official Events – An invitation should be sent to Sikh Community also, whenever there is multicultural event organised by Govt.

3. Religious Symbols – eg wearing Kirpan and Turban. Govt should issue some IDs to the sikh people, who wear kirpans

4. Exemption to wear helmet for bike riders

5.Family Friendly Visas – Removal of stay restriction, when visa to the visiting parents is issued for year or longer periods

Minister went around temple, langar hall and kitchen. he was very impressed with the volunteer work our community does.
