A MAN was killed today while working on a barge next to a Sydney construction site in Barangaroo when he was crushed by a metal object.
NSW Police said emergency services were called to a barge on the water in Darling Harbour about 4.40pm today.
“Police have been told a man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was working on a barge when he was struck by a metal object,” a statement said.
“He died at the scene.”
It’s believed the man was struck by a large piece of steel.
NSW Transport and Infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance passed on his sympathies to the family of the construction worker involved.
“I am deeply saddened to learn this evening of an accident which has claimed the life of a construction worker at Barangaroo,” he said in a statement.
“In this horrific time for the man’s family, friends and colleagues I would like to pass on my deepest sympathies and thoughts.
“I trust our NSW Government agencies will cooperate fully with all investigations into this very sad incident.”
Officers from Sydney City Local Area Command attended and a crime scene has been established. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Work Safe NSW has been notified.
