An off-duty police officer has been killed while riding a bicycle in Victoria.

Leading Senior Constable Dennis Cox, 42, was riding his bike when he was struck by a car in Sea Lake on Thursday morning.

Sadly, we can confirm that the cyclist who was killed in Sea Lake this morning was an off-duty police officer,” police said in a statement.

Leading Senior Constable Dennis Cox was a well respected and admired member of the Sea Lake community, working at the community’s one-person station for the past eight years.

Victoria Police extends its deepest sympathy and condolences to Dennis’ immediate and extended family, and friends.”

His death comes several months after the Eastern Freeway crash that killed Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King, Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor and Constable Joshua Prestney.

Tributes are flowing online for the police officer.

“We are just devastated for Dennis’ big beautiful family… you wouldnt find a more loving and decent family,” one person wrote.

“A wonderful ex-neighbour, family friend, such a character, so sadly missed by all.”
