On February 5, ‘Rang De Basanti’ star Kunal Kapoor tied the knot with long time partner Naina Bachchan. The secret destination wedding in Seychelles became big news when a candid image of their marriage appeared in the media, not officially but accidently. A close friend of the lovely couple posted a picture on Instagram, and Kunal had to confirm the news on Twitter.
Nainawas introduced to Kunal by her cousin Shweta Bachchan Nanda, and the couple remained friends since then. After dating for two years, they got engaged in February 2014 and finally married a year later. Naina is an investment banker by profession, and the daughter of Delhi-based socialite Ramola Bachchan and Amitabh’s younger brother Ajitabh Bachchan.
A grand gathering
On April 11, the entire Bachchan family hosted a grand reception for Kunal and Naina in Delhi that was attended by close family members, friends and bollywood biggies. Kunal looked dapper in a black bandhgala and Naina was stunning in a heavily embellished red lehenga. The entire Bachchan clan were dressed to the hilt with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan dressed in a beautiful red anarkali, while hubby Abhishek sported a black suit. Jaya Bachchan was resplendent in a golden sari. Photos of the Bachchan khandaan posing together made frantic rounds on social media.
Memorable moments from the reception were when Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek sang ‘Desi Girl’ to the bride, while Shweta Nanda, alluring in her delicate white and gold ensemble, was seen dancing with ‘Meet Brothers’. She was on ‘host’ duty for most of the night. welcoming guests and receiving gifts. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also turned up, looking chic in a purple sari. In between greeting the guests and the halla-gulla, the couple managed to enjoy their own little moments when Kunal would look after a very tired Naina, fixing her hair when needed, and making her sit down when she needed a break. Over 2000 guests strolled through three different arenas decorated by Rohit Bal, enjoying the sweet fragrance of mogras and the beautiful candlelit setup. Towards the end of the night, a light drizzle pushed the guests into the covered area housing the VIP lounge and dance floor. The ‘Meet Brothers’ and Kanika Kapoor got the guests dancing enthusiastically to traditional Punjabi dhol beats, and the mood continued to be upbeat.
Mumbai memories
The Bachchans threw another lavish party at their Juhu bungalow in Mumbai, which was attended by their close friends from Bollywood. Aamir Khan with wife Kiran Rao, Farah Khan, Imran Khan’s wife Avantika, Sanjay Kapur, Chunkey Pandey, Riteish Deshmukh and wife Genelia were spotted at the party, along with Gauri Khan, who rather surprisingly, was under-dressed in casual denims.
Well, the destination wedding was a hit and the receptions back home were blockbusters. So here’s wishing the couple a happily ever after!
