Kirkconnell prison escapee caught after night on the run

A prison escapee spent overnight on the run in NSW’s Central West but was arrested in bushland after being chased on foot by tipped-off police.

A prisoner who escaped from a correctional facility in NSW’s Central West spent the night on the run before being caught.

Police say the 33-year-old man was last seen running into bushland surrounding the Kirkconnell complex about 2pm on Friday.

They received information that led them to Great Western Highway, Meadow Flat, about 7.30am on Saturday and arrested the man in bushland after a brief foot chase.

He was taken to Lithgow Police Station and charged with escaping lawful custody.

The man appeared a short time later in Dubbo Local Court, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Lithgow Local Court on Thursday.
