With hits like Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Queen in her kitty, Kangana Ranaut says it is justified to ask for more remuneration as she deserves it. There have been reports that Kangana has beaten her contemporaries Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone in the race to be the Bollywood’s highest paid female star.
The actor who is ready with Katti Batti has apparently got a staggering Rs 11 crore for an upcoming movie. This amount is far more than what Deepika and Priyanka charge for a film.
“I think the kind of films and roles I do takes a whole year… I think it is justified. At some point, we have to come to that place where we are equally paid. It is a small step… we are headed to that direction.”
Kangana, who has acted in films like Tanu Weds Manu and its sequel, Fashion and Shootout at Wadala among others has often openly spoken about the disparity between the remuneration for male and female actors in the Hindi filmdom, “There is a huge gap between the remuneration of an actor and actress… it will take time (to reduce the gap). Male actors get into production, share profit and they don’t take money at times but are involved in some capacity which is economical and resourceful. These things suit them as they have made a place for themselves, they have command over the box office. There is no reason comparison now,” she adds.
There are actors like Salman Khan and others who have a share in profit of the film. On profit sharing Kangana says, “Not now, may be after sometime.” The Woh Lamhe star will soon begin work on Vishal Bhadrwaj’s Rangoon, Hansal Mehta’s Simran and Ketan Mehta’s biopic on warrior queen Rani Laxmibai.
Kangana has expressed her desire to direct films but couldn’t do it because of her busy schedule. “Earlier, people used to do two-three films together but I don’t do it that way. It may sound that I don’t have dates till 2017 but I work on one film at a time. These are few films but it takes a whole year. The release date has become important.”
Talking about her upcoming film Katti Batti, Kangana says, “From the promos, what people are feeling is obviously that it is a modern love story. But it’s much more than that. If you see the film, it unfolds like a thriller though it is basically a love story. Girl and boy like always are meeting and falling in love, but the difference is that this girl has suddenly disappeared, the mystery about who is she and where has she disappeared unfolds during the course of the film.”
She said those who have seen Katti Batti, love it. “Aamir Khan loved it. The aspect that people actually love about the film is the innovative manner of narrating the love story. As far as the songs are concerned, ‘Sarfira’ has already become popular and we have received good response for the film till now,” said Kangana.
