I extend my best wishes to the Indian community in NSW as you celebrate Indian Republic Day on January 26.
This important day is an opportunity to reflect on India’s transition to a democratic republic in 1950 and the achievements since gaining independence from Britain in 1947.
In this time, India has emerged as the world’s largest democracy at the forefront of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. NSW has developed strong trade and cultural ties with India and we look forward to the continued growth of that relationship.
Our two states are bound not only by a long history of commerce and trade but also strong sporting and cultural ties. As Premier, I welcome the many contributions to our state by Australians of Indian heritage.
Indian Republic Day will be celebrated differently this year due to COVID-19 and I would like to thank the Australian Indian community for supporting the measures put in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus. I wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe Indian Republic Day.
