Presentation Night with Peter Nevill

India Sports Club’s (ISC) Award Presentation Night 2016 was a high point on 27th August at the Parravilla Function Lounge. ISC recognised the high achievers of the Winter Cricket Competition as well as Badminton competition held on 23rd July at Sports Halls of Sydney Olympic Park. Australian Test wicket keeper/batsman Peter Nevill was the celebrity guest.

Onstage Tete-a-tete

The President of India Sports Club, Raj Natarajan’s onstage talk with Peter Nevill, Australian Test wicket-keeper/batsman provided an insight into the recent disappointing performance of Australian Cricket Team in the recent test series against Sri Lanka. Peter Nevill defended his delayed stumping of Dimuth Karunaratne on day four of the Colombo Test match. He did not agree that it was contrary to the spirit of the game. Further, he predicted that Australia would regain that number 1 spot in Test ranking shortly.

Function Lounge erupted in cheers and applause as the names of the winners of the badminton competitions were called out to receive their trophies. The noise got louder as cricket’s man-of-the-match awards, best batsman & bowler awards as well as the winners and runners-up awards were handed over to the proud and enthusiastic players. The subcontinent passion for the game of cricket was very evident.

The other VIP guests included Hon. Dr. Geoff Lee, Member for Parramatta; Hon. Dr. Hugh McDermott, Member for Prospect; Hon. Ms. Jodie McKay, Member for Strathfield; Cricket NSW officials; President of United Indian Associations Mr. John Kennedy; Mr. S.K.Verma, representative of Indian Consulate in Sydney.

Curtain Call

The evening had an enthralling and popular Rajasthani folk dance performance by young traditional dancers from the Nrityam dance school.  India Sports Club announced the launch of the summer cricket competition due to start in the second week of September.  The night was capped off with Peter Nevill meeting his fans and signing autographs.
