It is a pleasure to send my best wishes to everyone in New South Wales celebrating Diwali.
This festival unites more than a billion people across the globe in a spirit of hope and renewal. Diwali is a great time of year for many Australians of Indian and South Asian heritage to enjoy feasting, lighting ceremonial candles, decorating their homes and spending time with loved ones.
The NSW Government values the contribution of Australians of Indian and South Asian heritage to the cultural and economic development of our State. To mark this occasion the sails of the Opera House will be lit in soft golden hues to represent the festival’s traditional oil lamps.
I would also like to thank our Indian and South Asian communities for keeping up to date with the latest health messages designed to protect us all. The NSW Government deeply appreciates your efforts as they have helped to save lives.
I wish you all a happy, healthy and safe Diwali.
