Minister for Justice Michael Keenan and NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Justice and Police Troy Grant today announced disaster assistance for the parts of Metropolitan Sydney affected by a hail storm and flooding that occurred on 25 April 2015.

Mr Keenan said assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

“Today’s announcement demonstrates the commitment of the Commonwealth and NSW governments to helping disaster-affected communities recover,” Mr Keenan said.

“The local councils of Blacktown, Marrickville, Randwick and Sydney can seek assistance with the costs of clean-up operations and the restoration of essential public assets.”

Mr Grant said the Anzac Day hail storm and associated flash flooding caused serious disruptions to many parts of Metropolitan Sydney as well as significant damage to public infrastructure.

“The financial assistance being made available under the NDRRA will ensure damaged public infrastructure can be rebuilt or restored and response agencies are reimbursed for their clean-up efforts,” Mr Grant said.

Information on disaster assistance available for this natural disaster can be found on the Australian Government’s Disaster Assist website at www.disasterassist.gov.au and the Emergency NSW website at www.emergency.nsw.gov.au.
