The state government had earlier filed a special leave petition in the apex court on Tuesday against the acquittal of Salman Khan by the High Court.

The Rajasthan Government contended in the Supreme Court on Wednesday that Bollywood actor Salman Khan should be ordered to surrender and asked to go back to jail in two 18-year-old Chinkara poaching cases, as reported by NDTV. The state government had earlier filed a special leave petition in the apex court on Tuesday against the acquittal of Salman Khan by the High Court.

Additional Advocate General of the Rajasthan government in Supreme Court Shiv Mangal Sharma had said on Tuesday, “Hearing on our SLP is expected to come up some time after Diwali vacations.” The Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur on July 25 acquitted the Bollywood actor, who was accused of killing two Chinkaras in separate incidents.

One of the animals was killed at Bhawad on Jodhpur’s outskirts on September 26, 1998, and the other at Ghoda Farms on September 28, 1998. Shooting for the film ‘Hum Saath Sath Hain’ was taking place at the time in the desert state. Salman moved the Jodhpur bench of the High Court to challenge his conviction by a lower court and award of one and five-year terms in the two poaching cases.

On July 25, while allowing Salman’s appeal, Justice Nirmaljit Kaur had acquitted him of all charges and also dismissed the state government’s appeal for enhancing his sentence.
