From today, motorists travelling between Ryde Bridge and West Pymble in Sydney’s north will benefit from eight kilometres of new clearway on Church and Devlin streets and Lane Cove Road.
Minister for Roads Duncan Gay said the new stretch of clearway is part of the NSW Government’s $121 million clearways program, which aims to free up road space and bust Sydney’s congestion.
“The NSW Government is taking action to reduce congestion and is pushing ahead with our Clearways Strategy to get people moving on some of Sydney’s busiest roads,” Mr Gay said.
“With congestion currently costing Sydney around $5.1 billion each year, the NSW Government is committed to maximising the use of existing road space and delivering travel time savings for motorists.
“We’re not just building long-term congestion busting projects like NorthConnex and WestConnex – we’re also providing immediate relief on busy roads such as Victoria Road, the Princes Highway, Anzac Parade and now Church and Devlin streets and Lane Cove Road.”
Member for Lane Cove Anthony Roberts said investigations confirmed this new clearway would improve travel times between the Ryde Bridge and Yanko Road at West Pymble.
“This will be welcome news for passengers on the 26 bus routes using Church and Devlin streets and Lane Cove Road and the 40,000 vehicles travelling from Macquarie Park to the M2 as well as motorists requiring access to Ryde and Homebush,” Mr Roberts said.
Member for Ryde Victor Dominello said as part of the Clearways Strategy, the NSW Government committed $21 million to assist councils and Roads and Maritime to provide alternative parking for businesses near proposed clearways.
“A new car parking bay southbound on Lane Cove Road between Talavera and Waterloo roads at Macquarie Park will ensure three lanes of southbound traffic at all times and parking for nearby businesses,” Mr Dominello said.
The new clearway will operate in both directions on weekdays between 6am and 7pm and between 9am and 6pm on weekends.
