A ten-year-old boy who was struck by a car driven by a teenager in a Wollongong suburb earlier this week has died in hospital.

A ten-year-old boy who was struck by a car driven by a teenager south of Sydney has died in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Waples Road in Unanderra, a suburb of Wollongong, after reports a boy had been hit by a car about 8.35am on Wednesday.

He was treated at the scene for critical head injuries before being flown to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick, where he died just before 11am on Saturday.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing and later released.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
