The world’s largest grid-scale battery is set to be built in NSW in efforts to fill the gaps created by the retirement of assets such as the Liddell Power Station.
Over the next 20 years, around 16 gigawatts of thermal coal-fired generation and gas assets are retiring from the industry.
Power will be generated through solar panels which will be installed on industrial and commercial rooftops before being stored in the battery – which is proposed to be built in the Hunter Valley.
The project is set to cost around $2 billion, with the company CEP Energy currently in the process of raising the money.
CEP Energy aims to commence construction at the start of next year and have the battery up and running by 2023.
