This is not the first time that Sushma Swaraj has come to the aid of affected people who have reached out to her.

Sushma Swaraj has increasingly become a favourite of the common tweeple, thanks to her social media presence and the immediacy with which she addresses people’s issues. This time, the external affairs minister has helped a widowed mother and her newborn baby in matters relating to health insurance and availing the OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) card for her child.

Her family posted a letter addressing Sushma Swaraj on Twitter, in which they wrote to her about the problems the mother was facing. Pandey, who also has a four-year-old son is a resident of Boston, Massachusetts. After her husband’s sudden demise, her friends took her to New Jersey with them for better medical care.

But since in the United States of America the insurance of one state doesn’t work in the other, Pandey and her family struggled to avail proper treatment.

Her family has requested the government to grant passport and OCI card to the newborn, so the mother and her children can return to India at the earliest.

It did not take time for Twitter users to start noticing the letter and they started to tweet the letter to the minister, so that it reaches the minister as soon as possible.

Though the letter was sent before Pandey gave birth, after the letter went viral on Twitter, the minister was quick to take action. Sushma Swaraj instructed the Indian embassy to take care of Pandey’s needs and help her in every way that she wanted.

By now, people would know that this is not the first time that the Minister is coming to the rescue of affected citizens. She has earlier helped a son perform the last rites of his father by getting the embassy in the US to open on a holiday.
